In today's class we discussed child labor. Every one in the class read articles about child labor and the horrific truth about it. Many kids referred back to the video of the two kids that work on a tobacco farm. This is good evidence of why child labor is so wrong because they talk about the pesticides hurting them getting tobacco poisoning and how they work 12 hour work days. Another article people referred to was the fact that some kids signed up for it to make extra income for their family. Kids were so desperate to help their parents keep a roof over their heads they signed up to be abused physically and emotionally. One final thing the group often mentioned was the illegal hours they made the children work. Many facilities that had child labor had them work 72 hours or more. This was bad for the kids health and safety.
In the Socratic seminar I just had a few main points I kept brining up because they left an such an impact on me. One of which was that child labor also involved child prostitution and child trafficking for drugs. Not a lot of kids brought this up they stuck with the obvious facts but when I read about that I couldn't help but mention it because that.was the worst of what I had heard about child labor. Another point I brought up frequently was that child labor was so dangerous for the kids because in order for a kid to grow and develop properly he has to sleep and a lot at a young age -teens and they would get up at 4 am everyday a d start doing heavy lifting or dangerous jobs. Also for the children that were sold got not enough food or not the right food for a child to be healthy. One of my last and final points was that. It messed the kids up emotionally because they were treated like garbage and get nothing in return for there hard work. Again bringing up the orphans when they were sold by there own moth or father that messes them up a lot because the people that he loved the most gave him to this horrible life all alone for a couple hundred dollars and that again had a big impact on me.
My group was a very fun group to work with we always had ideas going and comments back and forth one thing we could have done better was eye contact.I would look at the person talking and they would be looking at the ground or at me Gleason. Another thing we should improve on is not repeating things that had already been said because a lot of the time we were stuck on one subject because no one would switch gears. Besides those 2 minor flaws my group did great. One thing we did really well was responding to people and bouncing ideas off each other although sometimes we got stuck in the mud it helped get a better understanding at some points. Another thing we all did well was wait a while before talking so if someone wanted to talk they could go which just thought was very polite because for those who talked less it gave them an opportunity to say something .

This report dated 9-15-14 has been provided for the urban planning committees of various cities In England. My name is Devon Lewis, and as a mid-level city inspector I trust that you will use the information within to determine appropriate needs in urban planning for your municipalities. My report has been through as I have made use of all the sources available to me and have worked to guide you through my own analysis and critical thinking to a full description of the issues facing our cities.
There were some positive aspects of Industrialization on Life & Work in the cities its healthy clean and spacious (Doc. B) and also a good safe environment to work in. The employees love their jobs and love it even more because they get payed for it (Doc. E) These resources did not seem reliable they seemed very scripted and didn't add up with the happenings of the sweat shops.
The were many negative aspects of Industrialization on Life & Work in the cities. The machines cause so much pollution it’s causing the rivers to turn purple, theres so many machines and people that its so compacts hot and sweaty.(Doc. A) To add to those its very smoky polluting the air making it dangerous to breath in that people predicted the children working in their were not going to live long (Doc. C) along with the fact that the people were working so closely together if one got sick they all got sick it was sweaty hot and germy and the people slaved away all day with the smoke polluting their lungs and the oil is polluting their water. (Doc. D)
Over all I think that the industrial revolution had a positive effect because although the people who worked during the time had to endure terrible working conditions this is the basis of employment today. You have to go through many failures if you want to succeed. Document A,C and D helped me process if it was positive or negative because they were more reliable sources the one documents B and E seem scripted and they clash with other documents and information and it just doesn't seem right . If the Industrial revolution had not slaved people through terrible conditions long hour and little pay we would have our up and running system today
